I know that all of you know by now that AI is starting to creep into our daily lives, but as I was trolling the internet I ran across an interesting article that peeked my interest in the question below:
When do you think AI will take over the world?
I don't mean take over as it (RUN) the united states, I actually mean (When will AI be so entrenched in our daily lives, we will not be able to live without it?)
This reminds me of the Internet/Web and how in the 80's and 90's, it was barely starting to make its way into our living rooms (By use of computers), and now every T.V., Stereo, and vehicle has a connection to the internet at all times.
What is interesting to point out is the advancement in technologies starting in the 70's up until now. As I was researching I noticed that technology in general had not leaped until about the early 70's, then we took off!!!
Which brings me to the NEWEST think I found out about Artificial Intelligence. I ran across an article that mention's how "The AI that will take over the world has already been born"!
Yes, I am pretty serious about the statement above.
Apparently we already have a software that has been developed, so it can re-develop itself. Sounds crazy right? Imagine something that can re-create itself, then it can place the actual intelligence into this item too, and create more of the same product.
I know what you are thinking about!!! Those movies where we see Robots creating robot, Hollywood seems to be cranking them out on a normal basis, so I know you know what I am referring to.
So, Back to my original Question,
When do you think AI will take over the world? or When will AI be so entrenched in our daily lives, we will not be able to live without it?
Here is a post on the AI that has already been born.

Tony,
ReplyDeleteGreat post, very interesting. I took a look at the link you posted and The Matrix immediately came to mind before I got to the bottom of the article when it mentions The Matrix. There may be something to the article, AI programs are probably already out there that are learning at an exponential rate. I kind of think that the 'awakening' of a true AI will not be gradual but very sudden and that is when life will get really interesting. But in reality, society is already so dependent upon computers and technology right now that we would probably be lost without it. I know how I feel when I leave the house without my phone, think if we had no more cell phones, that would make life pretty tough (at least for me, haha). Looking forward to reading your next post.

DeleteAfter reading your post again I found a great article online at the New Yorker. It's a great article that asks how scared we should be of AI and references a ton of pop culture moments about AI, to include a Star Trek episode and pretty much every scientist known to man. Very interesting read. Here's the link, https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/05/14/how-frightened-should-we-be-of-ai. Thanks
Craig
Craig,
DeleteThanks for your post.
I will tell you something very interesting about our PHONES. The other day I was out speaking with someone about a random piece of information at SAMS club. Out of no where, my phone WOKE up and began to rattle off information it had researched.
My phone was in my pocket, and I had not touched it at all. As a matter of fact, my phone was suppose to be locked, but yet the GOOGLE technology was LISTENING to my conversation and woke up my phone.
Be careful, because you never know who is listening.

Tony,
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting topic. Since we are living in this digital world now, we have to use Internet to get reach to information, other people, even our family members, but we never really thought how these emerging technologies has shifted or even controlled our world. In terms of education field. I think AI has considerable potential to drive changes in how teaching and learning takes place in colleges and universities, as well as how student progress can be tracked. However, these tools carry risks such as bias that institutions need to understand and avoid. We still need to study on that.
Yang
Yang,
DeleteYes we do need to perform more research in this area. AI can be a very good tool to use in the educational field, but we also need to learn how to contain it!
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteInteresting blog entry, I too find it strange how for years we didn't really have much change in terms of technology then all of a sudden everything has boomed. Our televisions are larger, lighter, and more affordable than years ago. My television is so high speed with its multiple apps and tracking of screening history that he makes great recommendations....well, except Netflix, the other day after having exhausted all my favorite shows I looked at the list of recommendations and low and behold they recommended Gilmore Girls....like I watch that lol. AI has improved so much now that apps allow us the users to create separate accounts so it can track what we are watching. Needless to say, I realized after a few minutes I was on my wife's profile....right ;)
Thanks for the post
Tony
Tony,
DeletePretty funny! I was reading your post reply and could not help thinking, "What aren't they tracking these days?"
Every time I log on to my phone or computer, I have a pop up of something I had been wanting to either purchase or something I actually purchased.
Crazy, how the AI technology tracks everything (Even if you delete your cookies).

Tony,
ReplyDeleteGreat topic and yet another interesting post. I think AI is really beginning to take off. That's all my 8th grader talks about it- well he started in sixth grade and how AI is the future. I was kind of like what is going on with my child? However, I am somewhat immersed in the AI realm- not developing it or anything just aware of it. I know AI can be very beneficial to us humans, but at the end of the day- AI if immersed on a grand scale or entrenched as you state- will change the demography, economy, and possibly turn our society upside down- well not literally- but you've seen those movies in the70s and 80s where skynet took over (Terminator Reference). I am not making that statement at all-but I wonder how much our interest in AI as a whole is more out of convenience or do we really need it. This is not to say the use of AI in the healthcare, military, and education realm isn't great- I think AI in those industries are awesome- but to take an educated guess...I's say AI would be so entrenched on our daily lives from 2040-2050 roughly. Technology is advancing so fast that everyone (companies and consumers) are always looking for the next best thing. My question to you is...how do you know you're (Tony R) not an AI created by an AI?
Great post and blog topics so far brother- you make it interesting every time I read your blog!

Nick,
DeleteThanks for your post. Long ago in the early 2000's, I noticed that my (Now 27yr old) was getting on some social media website called (My space).
Anyways, this website blew up and was one of the first ever SOCIAL media type websites. If your son is interested in AI, then I bet it is next on the BIG scale. Kids seem to know when something big is coming on the technology platform.
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteGreat topic, and I believe we are already there. AI makes things so convenient. For example, I do have the "Alexia" system in my house and my alarms are set up into "Alexia". I also have the smart lights in my home, so 10 minutes prior to waking up my lights begin to turn on. Both of these systems are what wakes me up in the mornings. Been using this for the last couple of years. Thanks for sharing additional information on AI and this article.
Billy
Billy,
DeleteI didn't know this was available.
Let me know what they are called, so I can go out and get me a few of the lights. I would love to test out the systems and see how they work.
Can I use it without ALEXA?
Tony Ruiz
Hi Tony,
ReplyDeleteGreat topic.I think AI has penetrated into all fields of production and life, and constantly refreshed our imagination.
In the field of education, artificial intelligence has been applied in teaching projects such as correcting assignments and teaching English, and exploring the individualized learning mode. In the field of translation, translation software can support the translation of dozens of popular languages around the world, covering hundreds of translation directions. In the field of logistics, products such as smart distribution, intelligent distribution robots, unmanned warehouses, and drones have been helping the express delivery industry to improve logistics speed and service levels. In the medical field, the ability to use AI and big data allows machines to screen and analyze medical images to aid physician diagnosis.
For all walks of life, the intuitive change is improving efficiency.
Jialu
Jialu,
DeleteAI is becoming the new software of choice for all the different career fields. Everyone seems to be finding a use for this new emerging technology.
Take a look at my next post to see what I am referring to!
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the Matrix. Which pill do I take? Someone has already created this movie. Except, in the Matrix, humans were used as batteries. I believe AI is going to play a big role in our society but I am not buying living in the Matrix. Humans living in a Matrix where Robots are taking care of them is pretty far-fetched. I know AI is being integrated into our homes, cars, and even shopping but I not a fan of all of this. I have an Alexa but I do not like it. My wife plugs it in and I on plug it. I am skeptical of pushing a button and all the doors in my house locks. I like technology but I do not want it to control my life. Thanks for sharing.
Mark
Mark,
DeleteI am on the same sheet of music as you are!!
We cannot let ourselves get sucked into the AI technology or it will take over our world.
Good post.
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteI believe this generation coming now, generation z, is going to be the ones who let AI take over. To everyone else, all the cool AI gadgets that they purchase are cool and amazing. As cool as they are we still know how to do things without them as we started off without them. This new generation was born with it surrounding them. My young sister is only 5, and did not know how to change the tv volume without talking to the remote. When the remote wasn't responding to her voice she thought that was it, she didn't know the buttons could do that. It is very interesting to witness.
-Michaela
Michaela,
DeleteYes, I know exactly what you mean. My 12 yr old was yelling to this google phone in the shower to switch the music and put another song on of his choice. When it didn't work, he became upset and told me that we needed to replace his phone because his HEY GOOGLE wasn't working...
I just laughed and told him to GET A JOB.
Thanks for your post.
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. The article was so intense, it actually gave me goose bumps. I personally believe that AI is a technology that is so close yet so far away. The network infrastructure simply cannot support the amount of data that will be required for an AI take over. Not that it cannot be built, in fact, it is probably in progress right now. In the meantime, we still have to deal with the short burst of streaming before being disrupted, like getting cut-off in the middle of a FaceTime conversation when you hit a no coverage zone. Again great post and article to keep us all in tuned to what's coming.
--Lisa
Lisa,
DeleteYes, we need to ensure that we know what is next on the Technology platforms.
My fear is that we will one day be talking into computers to type and into televisions to switch channels.
We might loose the typing skills in the next century... Just like typewriters...
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteNice post. AI is certainly everywhere these days and we are getting spoiled by it. I saw a commercial yesterday for a AI Kitchen Facet. You can tell it to dispense ten ounces into a measuring cup or fill a pot from across the room. This would be great for someone who is blind or has some other impairment, but it just seems lazy to me. How long before people cannot read a measuring cup?
Chuck
Chuck,
DeleteYes, you are right.
I actually just commented to LISA that we might be loosing certain skills in the next century due to AI.
Obviously it will replace certain skills, but which ones will it actually TAKE OVER?
Tony Ruiz
Tony,
ReplyDeleteYou know how paranoid I am about that type of thing. I have been wearing the tinfoil hat and oven mits as slippers like you recommended to me before.
AI has been running the world for a wile. For example, AI produces actions and reactions based on conditions or possible conditions. The choke on a 1972 Holley 750 4 barrel double pumping carburetor does the same thing. A thermal spring presses on a plastic diaphragm in anticipation that the weather will effect both the idle and vacuum of the engine. without enough vacuum, the carb will not pull enough fuel and the engine will die.
AI, always watching, always learning.
Johnny Five is alive.
Matt
Matt,
DeleteGood response. I will make sure I remember this the next time I am working on a 1973 Holly 750 4 barrel double pumping carburetor.
I got a kick out of your post.
Thanks for posting.
